The Cyclones Softball season ended on Friday at NJCAA Division III National Tournament.
The Cyclones, seeded 4th at the National Tournament, won their first game vs. Brookdale CC 9-7. Kassidy Klaphake (Fr. ROCORI) got the complete game win for the Cyclones. Klaphake helped her own cause at the plate going 2-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Megan Johnson (Fr. Dassel-Cokato) let the way at the plate; Johnson went 3-4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.
The Cyclones ran into a buzzsaw on Friday morning when they took on the eventural champions Rock Valley (IL). The Cyclones lost 4-1 in dropping to the loser's bracket. The Cyclones struck out 8 times and only managed 3 hits at the plate. Janae Myers accounted for the sole Cyclone run.
The Cyclones faced Cumberland (NJ) in their next game Friday afternoon. The Cyclones were able to come back from an early deficit to overcome and defeat the Dukes 5-3. Holly Schumacher went 2-3 with 3 RBI's and a run scored in. Both of Schumacher's hits were triples. Heidi Shelton got the win and Kassidy Klaphake threw the final two innings getting the save.
The Cyclones season came to an end at the hands of Hudson Valley CC. The Cyclones dropped the game 2-1. Kassidy Klaphake took the hard luck loss throwing a solid 7 innings. Megan Johnson accounted for the only run on a Home Run. Schumacher concluded an outstanding tournament with 2 more hits including a double.
The Cyclones finished 4th in the country which capped off the best season in the programs history. The 2015 team won 35 games, won the MCAC South Conference, and Region XIIIA Tournament.
